The now traditional 1st January bath party is awaiting anyone stationed in Budapest for the end of year celebrations. However your new year’s eve party turns out to be, you can always trust the aquatic-energy boost the next day - from the awesome visuals and performances, water screens, soothing soundwaves and uptempo vibes depending on which section of Gellért you happen to settle in. Several rooms – with electronic beats, mash-up, funk-disco and ambient along with performances on all terrains will be full of cheerful youth and youthful grown-ups celebrating gooood times. This time in Gellért! Come on!
Many happy faces on the first day of the year, wherever you look – in a lovely built environment and magical sparty-atmosphere.
It came about 12 years ago, and for those who spend their New Year’s Eve in Budapest, it became the regular year-starting party: Cinetrip birthday sparty makes anyone forget all exhaustion and problems, and recharges with new energies – right on the first night of the year. The forthcoming birthday will two-thousand-and-tenify the artistic mosaics and Art Nouveau ornaments of Gellért, awaiting you for an audio-visual energizing with 3 different musical locations.
Bathday Celebration is one of the highlights of the 2009-10 season dubbed Water Circus - based in general in Rudas-, where acrobatics and visuals tie in with the special features of Gellért. Performances of aerialists, water and fire-jugglers and unique LED-installations enchant dancers in and around the pool, should they choose to take it cool, or burn a few joules.
In the hall, the 20:10 Disco Express arrives with some virtual delay at 9PM, with a choice of resident Cinetrip DJs from different rooms of Rudas on board. At the musical engines are Sanyi and Waxman, then Marvin and Grasshop, who guide the summer-clad Cine-travellers from disco through funk breaks all the way to house. The Jacuzzi pool will be like an imaginary bath-festival scene from StarWars: the laser show, gigantic LED-installations by Skylab VJs from Space and acrobats will move along with the crowd to the DJ sets. On top of the Art Nouveau columns, the musical arc launched by the live PA of 9b0 will be built up by the finely trimmed electronika of Fine Cut Bodies and the Kollektiva DJ-brigade will splash it down amongst frolicking limbs and bouncing bodies.
Hot steam-powered ambient has also found its rightful place here: at the thermal pools Kaszi, Jácint and Peter will send the fluoro-ionic bass balls booming and the tiny electronic birds khi-khi-khickin’. At midnight, the Oriental pulls in with the belly dance show of Amira and the Huris of the bath.
Wandering around various parts of the bath, like the labyrinthine underwater corridors revealing bare legs and arms will be made more amusing by atmosphere-sensitive installations called Magnetic Field Reactions.
Favoured by the Turks for its large and hot water reserve – dubbed Purgatory accordingly - the spring inside Gellért hill was noted for its magical healing quality from the 15th century. In the Middle Ages, a hospital functioned at the foot of the Gellert Hill, then after almost half a millenium, in 1918, the Art Nouveau building of Gellért Bath and Hotel opened its gates, to be ammended by the wave bath in 1927 and the jacuzzi in 1934.
The impressive building of Gellért, richly decorated with oriental and Hungarian ornaments is – very much like the vibe of the Cinetrip new year launch: subtle and monumental at the same time. The marble columns and statues of the hall, the labyrinthine corridors, and the two-story bath chamber with glass ceiling and loggia, ca. 700 m² in size still full of original coloured mosaics, columns, statues, vases and spouts are all going through a major transformation for the event. If you bring your swimsuit, you can find your place over the 246 m² surface of the 26 degree celsius jacuzzi pool, or over the 60 m² surface of the facing 30 oC thermal pool, or even wander further along the end to the wonderful, Turkish-style, separated men/women baths with their own decorations, where the 8 thermal pools are open for both sexes tonight.
The elegance and monumental size of Gellert Bath unified with the audio-visual party-methods of Cinetrip offer a truly splendid start for the new year.
The Cinetrip series was launched on 1st January 1998, and has charmed the audience - having enough of the monotony of mundane and standardized parties - in exclusive water- and space-related locations ever since. The 2009/10 season of the series - offering soul-soothing and literally body-cherishing thematic programmes for anyone between 18 to 70 – brings back and mixes the world of water-circus with a bah-party experience enhanced by water-screens and LED installations.
